German Economy Minister Katherina Reiche sought shelter in a bunker during her visit to Ukraine due to an airstrike on Kyiv, according to a statement from her press service reported by DW.

Reiche spent about an hour in an underground parking lot, which serves as a shelter for the hotel's guests, including the German delegation.

Commenting on the incident at a press conference, the minister said that for her it was a "depressing" experience, the first of its kind. Still, for Ukrainians it is "a hard everyday reality".

"This night has shown me once again, in a very convincing way, that the Russian attacks on the Ukrainian population are aimed at weakening them morally and physically," said Katherina Reiche, quoted by the dpa agency.

The German economy minister arrived in Kiev on October 24 to assess Ukraine's needs in the process of rebuilding its energy infrastructure, which has been damaged by recent attacks by the Russian Federation. During her visit, Katherina Reiche announced that Germany would expand its support for Ukraine in the energy sector.
