Cahul District Hospital now treats cancer patients with five new oncology centers

Cancer patients from southern Moldova will be treated starting Monday, October 27, at the Cahul District Hospital. This announcement was made by the acting Minister of Health, Ala Nemerenco.
Oncological patients with moderate severity no longer need to travel to the Oncological Institute in Chisinau for chemotherapy.
At the Cahul District Hospital, chemotherapy will be organized and administered to oncological patients based on medical indications established by specialists. Doctors from the Oncological Institute will inform and guide patients through the Multidisciplinary Oncological Council.
The costs for these services will be covered by the compulsory health insurance funds, through contracts with the National Health Insurance Company.
"We have quickly organized and launched five such centers, staffed with trained oncologists, in the district hospitals of Florești, Sângerei, Briceni, Orhei, and Cahul," stated the acting minister.
According to the same source, the network will gradually expand to additional district hospitals.
We remind you that the order for the decentralization of chemotherapy treatment was signed by Minister Ala Nemerenco on August 14 of this year.
In 2024, over 10,700 people in the Republic of Moldova were diagnosed with cancer, and around 63,000 individuals with various oncological diseases are currently registered with doctors.
Oncological diseases are the second leading cause of mortality in the Republic of Moldova, following cardiovascular diseases.
