Romanian passports for Russians obtained through false documents: authorities conduct searches at a company in Chișinău

Moldovan passports were issued to Russian citizens, who then submitted these documents to the National Authority for Citizenship in Bucharest to obtain Romanian citizenship as well. The Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), in collaboration with officers from the State Fiscal Service, uncovered a scheme involving tax evasion and money laundering. This scheme resulted in over six million lei in damages to the national public budget.

Law enforcement officers conducted 12 searches at a company in Chisinau that provided services for preparing documents to facilitate the acquisition of citizenship in the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

According to the data accumulated in the file, after obtaining citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, the documents were submitted to the National Authority for Citizenship in Romania, so that the applicants, mostly citizens of the Russian Federation, could also obtain Romanian citizenship.

For these services, the companies collected money in lei, foreign currency, and even electronic money, without recording the amounts in their accounting records and without paying the taxes owed to the state.

Following the searches, law enforcement officers seized mobile phones, computers, accounting documents, software, draft documents, amounts of foreign currency, powers of attorney, and other documents bearing signs of forgery.

In this file, the targeted company and two members of its management are under investigation.

Investigations continue to identify all persons involved and recover damages.
