Moldova seeks European Parliament backing to open six EU negotiation clusters

The Republic of Moldova is relying on the support of the European Parliament to initiate negotiations on six clusters and to continue the necessary reforms for its accession to the European Union (EU). Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi, conveyed this message to the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Victor Negrescu, during his working visit to Chișinău on October 28.

The head of Moldovan diplomacy expressed gratitude for the European Parliament's ongoing support for the Republic of Moldova. He specifically referenced the Resolution adopted on September 10, 2025, which endorses efforts to strengthen the country's resilience against hybrid threats and external interference.

Victor Negrescu, the Vice President of the European Parliament, commended the democratic and transparent manner in which the September parliamentary elections were conducted. He also noted the significant pace of reforms implemented by the authorities in Chișinău.

"The Republic of Moldova is firmly committed to the path of European integration. The results of the September elections confirm strong public support for this direction. We will continue to advance the implementation of reforms and collaborate with our European partners to open accession negotiations. We remain reliant on close cooperation with the European Parliament," stated Mihai Popșoi.

Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, recently stated that the Council of the European Union has all the necessary information to decide on opening negotiations for Cluster 1 - Fundamental Values - with both Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.

Additionally, António Costa, the President of the European Council, previously indicated that negotiations regarding the clusters with the Republic of Moldova could commence by the end of this year.
