New Parliament will form 13 committees; key ones to be led by PAS
The new Parliament will have 12 or 13 permanent committees. The parliamentary majority, led by the Action and Solidarity Party, will retain leadership of the most important committees. These include the Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance; the Committee on Legal Affairs, Appointments, and Immunities; and the Committee on European Integration and Foreign Policy. This information was shared by MP Radu Marian during the "Pe Față" program on Moldova 1 TV. The final decisions will be approved by a vote in the Parliamentary plenary session.
There will be 12 committees in total, and it is likely that an additional committee will be created for European integration. The parliamentary majority intends to lead both the Committee on Economy, Budget, and Finance and the Legal Committee. It is also expected that they will lead the Committee on European Integration, which is related to foreign policy. If there are 12 committees in total, the distribution will likely be about 7 to 5 or 8 to 4 in favour of the majority. This distribution follows a straightforward formula. Traditionally, the Committee on Human Rights, the Committee on the Environment, and the Committee on the Control of Public Finances are assigned to the opposition.
Radu Marian noted that the opposition will need to determine who will lead the various committees.
"The situation is a bit more complex because there are five factions in the opposition. Despite this, the majority (PAS) will still control most of the committees, even if the deputy leading a committee is not from PAS. The opposition needs to discuss among themselves how to allocate the leadership of these committees, as one party cannot lead more than three committees," explained Radu Marian.
In a separate TV program, the Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu, announced that PAS deputy Marcel Spătari will lead the Committee for European Integration, while Nicu Popescu will head the Committee for Foreign Policy.
