Parliament approves its vice-presidents, Standing Bureau, and standing committees

The session to establish the new Parliament began on October 22 and will continue on Thursday, October 31. The agenda includes discussions on the election of the vice-presidents of the Legislative, the formation of the Standing Bureau, and the establishment of the standing committees.

The 12th Parliament was officially constituted last week, following the validation of the mandates of the deputies elected in the September 28 elections.

In the first part of the constituent session, Igor Grosu was re-elected as Parliament Speaker. At the same time, the parliamentary factions were announced, six in number. The Action and Solidarity Party holds the parliamentary majority with 55 mandates.

The Socialist faction has 17 deputies, the Communist Party and the Alternative Bloc – eight mandates each, and the Our Party and the Democracy at Home Party – six each. Former Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev, elected on the Patriotic Bloc lists, announced that he will serve as an unaffiliated deputy.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu announced on October 29 that, after the prime minister-designate consults with all parliamentary groups, on Friday, October 31, deputies will meet in a new session to elect the new Government led by Prime Minister-designate Alexandru Munteanu.
