Doctor: Blood pressure monitoring prevents heart complications

A blood pressure reading outside the normal range necessitates a visit to a family doctor. For patients diagnosed with hypertension, specialists recommend lifelong treatment to prevent cardiovascular complications.
Hypertension is defined as consistently having blood pressure readings of 140/90 mmHg or higher. It is the most common cardiovascular disease and affects the majority of the population after the age of 50.
Dr. Nadejda Sapojnic, a cardiologist, emphasized the importance of monitoring blood pressure. “It’s crucial to detect when your blood pressure increases and to seek medical advice promptly,” she stated during an interview on the “Zi de Zi” program on Radio Moldova.
The doses of antihypertensive medications may be adjusted based on blood pressure readings. However, treatment should never be discontinued, even during periods of stabilization, due to the risk of sudden blood pressure spikes that can lead to serious complications, such as strokes, which can affect other organ systems.
"Antihypertensive treatment is a long-term, conventional, and lifelong commitment. The inconvenience of taking a single pill each day is minimal compared to the risks that can be prevented," Dr. Sapojnic added.
Normal blood pressure typically measures around 120/80 mmHg, while a reading of 130/80 mmHg may indicate a rising trend that requires closer monitoring.
