Cristina Gherasimov before the vote: "Ukraine’s example allowed us to apply for EU membership"

The Republic of Moldova has actively supported and will continue to support Ukraine’s European integration, particularly in light of Ukraine's application for European Union membership. This statement was made on Friday, October 31, by Cristina Gherasimov, the acting Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, during a plenary session of Parliament discussing the Government Program of the Munteanu Cabinet.
Responding to the question of what Chisinau's position will be in the event that, by December this year, when the negotiation clusters are to be opened, a solution will not be identified within the EU regarding Hungary's intention to block Ukraine's integration by veto, Cristina Gherasimov recalled that, thanks to its neighbors, the Republic of Moldova had the chance to submit its application for EU membership.
"The Republic of Moldova has always supported the European path of our neighbors, Ukraine, because it is precisely because of them, in the context of the tragedy they are going through, that we also had the opportunity to submit this application for membership to the European Union", emphasized Cristina Gherasimov, proposed for the position of Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration in the new Government.
According to the official, each candidate state has its own negotiation path, based on meritocracy. In the case of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, the process is parallel only in the opening of the first group of chapters, which refers to fundamental values.
Cristina Gherasimov also said that the Republic of Moldova is not waiting for the symbolic moment of opening the negotiations, the reforms being carried out in accordance with the national accession program.
"I want to assure you that we are making all the necessary diplomatic efforts to move forward with the technical processes. We have very clearly described our accession path in the National Program, and the reforms are continuing at the established pace, in such a way that we manage to close the negotiations within the proposed deadlines", Cristina Gherasimov said.
We remind you that the designated Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu told the deputies today, from the Parliament rostrum, that the new Government aims to complete the accession negotiations by 2028 and implement the community acquis in all areas.
Alexandru Munteanu assured that he would submit his resignation if he failed to prepare the Republic of Moldova for EU accession by 2028, adding, however, that "if we don't join, it will be bad for everyone".
