"Gheorghe Asachi" Lyceum director placed in 30-day detention for alleged corruption

The director of the "Gheorghe Asachi" Theoretical Lyceum in Chisinau, Natalia Bulat, and the representative of an economic agent, detained on October 30, were placed in preventive arrest for 30 days. The decision was made on Friday, October 31, by the Chisinau Court based in Ciocana.

The educational institution's management is facing accusations of fictitious employment, which has resulted in the embezzlement of lyceum funds. They are also alleged to have systematically extorted, accepted, and received financial contributions from various economic agents, which amount to approximately 10% of the total value of contracts for the purchase of goods, services, and works.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, there are reasonable suspicions that officials received money from the parents of enrolled students without any legal justification, using various pretexts.

One deputy from the high school, along with other economic agents, is currently being investigated in connection with this case.

The Ministry of Education and Research has reaffirmed its zero tolerance for corruption within the educational system. They announced that this case will also be reviewed by the Ministry's Ethics Council.

The Ministry urges teachers and administrators of educational institutions to uphold integrity and adhere to the law. Additionally, parents and students who encounter similar situations are encouraged to report them to the National Anti-Corruption Center hotline at 0800 55555.
