Moldova on track: EU accession progress confirmed

The European Commission will publish the EU Enlargement Package 2025 on November 4th. This annual assessment details the progress of every candidate country for accession, including the Republic of Moldova.
"This year we worked even harder," stated Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov. She noted that in the previous year, the Republic of Moldova registered progress across 31 of the 33 chapters examined in the initial EC progress report.
Within the Enlargement Package assessment, the European Commission establishes two main dimensions: the scorecard for progress or regression over the past 12 months, and the country's current level of accession preparedness. The report also delivers necessary reform recommendations for the Moldova EU path.
"Preparedness has grown year-on-year in critical sectors: energy, environment, customs, education, culture, regional policy, and structural instrument coordination. This year, we achieved more despite navigating two elections, a referendum, unprecedented challenges, an intense screening process, and complex five-year strategic planning," emphasized Cristina Gherasimov in a video briefing explaining the evaluation's importance.
Teleradio-Moldova's special correspondent in Brussels, Dan Alexe, suggests the overall picture appears challenging. However, he noted the Republic of Moldova has made tangible progress, especially when compared to peers like Ukraine, Serbia, and Georgia.
The document, consulted early by Teleradio-Moldova, confirms the European Commission sees R. of Moldova advancing on the accession path at an accelerated pace. Crucially, cooperation with the EU has deepened significantly, all while resisting continuous hybrid threats aimed at destabilization.
Moldova's firm commitment to EU accession was further reconfirmed by the parliamentary elections of September 28, 2025, which resulted in a governing majority dedicated to the pro-EU agenda.
The inaugural EU-Moldova Summit on July 4, 2025, ushered in a new cooperation era. Concurrently, concrete steps are being finalized for the gradual single market integration of the Republic of Moldova, including the "Roam like at home" initiative taking effect on January 1, 2026.
