Government greenlights coordinated control mechanism at Fălciu–Cantemir railway point

The Republic of Moldova and Romania are implementing coordinated control at the Cantemir–Fălciu border crossing point. This marks the third border crossing point to adopt this mechanism and the first of its kind for railway transport. The Government of Chisinau approved the agreement during its meeting on November 5, which was initially signed in Bucharest in early October.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniela Misail-Nichitin, stated during the meeting that the Republic of Moldova is making significant progress in modernizing border control and enhancing citizen mobility by implementing this agreement.

The coordinated control, being applied for the first time at a railway point in both travel directions, aims to reduce waiting times, eliminate queues, and simplify procedures for citizens and economic operators. This will ultimately support cross-border trade and exports.

According to the minister, the Fălciu-Cantemir railway point holds strategic importance. It is part of the European Union's "Solidarity Corridors" initiative and contributes to integrating the Republic of Moldova into the European transport network.

Daniela Misail-Nichitin emphasized the benefits of this initiative, including support for the local economy, improved access to jobs and services, and reduced waiting times at the border for rail transport.

At the signing ceremony for the agreement, Romanian Minister of the Interior Cătălin Predoiu emphasised that the ongoing controls by mixed teams will streamline and secure cross-border traffic. "We remain firmly with Chișinău on the European path and accelerate joint projects at the border", Cătălin Predoiu declared at the time.

After Albița–Leușeni, Galați–Giurgiulesti and Fălciu–Cantemir, joint control will also be established at the Sculeni–Sculeni point. The initiation of negotiations with the authorities in Bucharest was approved by the Government in Chișinău in the meeting of October 15.
