Children born on the left bank of the Nistru will automatically receive the so-called "transnistrian citizenship"

Children born on the left bank of the Nistru will automatically obtain the so-called "transnistrian citizenship" without the need for their parents to apply in this regard. The decision was taken by the alleged legislative body of the separatist entity of the Republic of Moldova and will enter into force after being countersigned by the so-called Transnistrian leader, Vadim Krasnoselski.
According to the proposed amendments, a child will automatically receive the so-called "citizenship" if he was born on the left bank of the Nistru or outside the Transnistrian region, but has at least one of his parents "citizen of the Republic of Moldova".
We want to point out that approximately 350,000 inhabitants of the Transnistrian region hold citizenship of the Republic of Moldova.
According to data from the Public Services Agency, as of June 30, 375,044 people from the Transnistrian region were registered in the State Population Register.
Of this total, 354,718 people are domiciled on the left bank of the Nistru and the municipality of Bender (Tighina): 347,161 hold the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, and 7,557 are foreign citizens.
The constitutional authorities in Chisinau reiterate that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova benefit from multiple advantages offered by the status of a candidate country for EU accession, including free movement within the EU and access to numerous economic, educational, and social opportunities.
