Ambulance called every 43 seconds: the main emergencies reported to 112

Every day, thousands of people call the single emergency number 112, but not all of these calls are for genuine emergencies. In October 2025, the national 112 service received over 176,000 calls, with more than a third being classified as non-urgent. These non-urgent calls did not require immediate intervention from the Ambulance, Police, or Fire Department. On average, operators managed over 5,000 urgent cases each day that required the response of specialized crews.
Of the total number of calls received: 176,774 – approximately 5,700 per day, 99,810 (62.68%) were real, representing cases that required the immediate intervention of specialized services, and 59,536 (37.32%) were non-urgent calls, not of an immediate emergency nature.
Ambulance, on mission every 43 seconds
Most real calls concerned medical emergencies, approximately 63 thousand. On average, 2,000 times per day, that is, one call every 43 seconds, citizens requested the help of the Ambulance. Most of the times it was due to high blood pressure, abdominal or back pain, or undiagnosed health problems.
The most common reasons for calling were also sick children (over 3,800 cases) and chest pain (over 2,200 cases). In total, medical emergencies represented 70% of all actual calls.
Police – over 24 thousand interventions
The Police came in second place in terms of volume of requests, with 24,308 calls recorded – an average of 784 per day. The most numerous situations concerned aggressive people, conflicts, road accidents and illegally parked vehicles.
In October alone, over 3,000 road accidents were reported through 112, which means approximately 100 incidents per day.
Firefighters and rescuers – hundreds of unlocking and fire cases
The Firefighters and Rescuers Service responded to over 2,200 cases, which represents an average of 71 calls per day.
The most frequent requests were for unlocking doors (150 cases), fires in the residential sector (120) and vegetation fires (68). In other situations, operators only offered telephone advice, thus avoiding the movement of crews where an intervention was not necessary.
Chisinau – leader in calls
The most calls were received from Chisinau: almost 29 thousand, followed by Balti (3,920) and the districts of Orhei (3,177), Ungheni (2,739), Cahul (2,223), Falesti (2,094), Soroca (1,999), Hancesti (1,991) and Ialoveni (1,963).
Misuse of emergency calls
Representatives of the 112 service want to emphasize that non-urgent or abusive calls can delay genuine emergencies and potentially jeopardize human lives. Each call is automatically recorded, allowing operators to assess the nature of the situation and the location before forwarding the information to the appropriate specialized services. When multiple response teams are needed, the information is transmitted simultaneously to the Ambulance, Police, and Fire Departments.
