Dnipro residential building strike kills two, children among injured

On the night of November 8, Russian attacks on Ukraine intensified, deploying a barrage of drones and missiles across the country.

In Dnipro, a devastating Dnipro residential building strike left two dead and 12 injured, including two children, officials reported, citing The Kyiv Independent. The widespread strikes necessitated extensive Ukraine power outages throughout several regions overnight.

Social media footage and photos vividly documented the significant structural damage to the residential high-rise in Dnipro, where the impact tore through the fourth to sixth floors. Multiple apartments were completely destroyed, and a major fire ignited immediately at the attack site. The rising number of civilian casualties underscores the severity of the assault.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine confirmed that six individuals, including a 13-year-old girl, required hospitalization. Vladyslav Haivanenko, Governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, specified that the injured included a 2-year-old child and the 13-year-old girl. Rescue teams continue their efforts, and officials caution that the casualty count may still rise, as the full extent of the structural damage remains unclear.

Monitoring groups indicated Russia launched a mix of advanced weaponry, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, as well as cruise and ballistic missiles, targeting regions nationwide.

Cities including Kremenchuk, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv also came under heavy Russian attack. Explosions rocked Sumy and the Odessa region, according to local media. The concurrent threat of further ballistic missile attacks prompted air raid alerts across central and eastern Ukraine, while Russian drone strikes caused fires in Kyiv.

A massive wave of Energy infrastructure attacks by Russia plunged most regions into widespread darkness. Regional Governor Oleg Kiper confirmed drones struck energy facilities in the Odessa region late on Friday.

Following the crippling overnight assault on the energy infrastructure, Minister of Energy Svetlana Grinchuk (citing the BBC) announced the implementation of emergency power shutdowns across multiple regions.

In the Poltava region, Vladimir Kogut, head of the regional military administration, reported via Telegram that the Kremenchuk community is enduring blackouts, water cuts, and partial heating losses. Electric transport in Kremenchuk city has ceased operations. Furthermore, the nocturnal strikes severely disrupted regional rail services, leaving several stations without power and damaging the contact network in many sections.

In Kharkiv, Mayor Igor Terekhov detailed the impact: several districts are facing Kharkiv water supply interruptions, the metro is being used solely as a shelter, and surface electric vehicles have been replaced by buses.

"But the problems are not only in Kharkiv. Across the whole country – from Lviv to Sumy, from Odesa to Chernihiv – energy workers are eliminating the consequences of a new wave of Russian strikes on our energy [system]," Terekhov concluded.
