USM wins 258 international awards for scientific performance

The State University of Moldova (USM) maintained its standing as a benchmark academic institution in the field of research and innovation throughout 2025, recording an impressive surge in scientific performance.
The university's exceptional year was marked by securing three Grand Prizes, five Special Prizes, 201 gold medals, 45 silver medals, and nine bronze medals. These research achievements were formally recognized at the Research Performance Gala, an event organized for the International Day of Science for Peace and Development.
USM researchers were highly successful at various invention exhibitions. "We participated with a team of collaborators-researchers from the institute. Our comprehensive study of the parasitofauna in game animals allowed us to analyze the impact of parasitic agents on the host organism and, crucially, to develop diagnostic and prophylactic methods for combating parasitoses," explained Ștefan Rusu, Doctor Habilitat, a university lecturer and researcher at the Institute of Zoology at USM. Over the course of 2025, USM researchers significantly boosted the university's international visibility and competitiveness. They presented 233 scientific papers and innovative works at international invention salons.
The scope of their work is notably broad. "Together with other researchers, we are focused on developments in agriculture to combat pests. We also pursue developments in aquaculture to increase fish production in ponds and protect them from diseases. Furthermore, our contributions to apiculture aim to protect the viability of bee colonies," stated Laurenția Ungureanu, Doctor Habilitat and a member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
The research achievements of 2025 are undeniable proof of USM’s advanced scientific level, high innovation capacity, and the consistent dedication of its researchers to promoting academic excellence and technology transfer.
This diverse output includes high-impact medical research. "Our work is centered on the development of anti-cancer substances. I have been studying this field for 20 years, beginning my investigations in Canada and then continuing them in the Republic of Moldova," stated Aurelian Gulea, an academician and specialist in inorganic chemistry and physics.
In summary, 2025 was a landmark year, with the State University of Moldova accumulating a significant record of international awards and recognition. These included the Grand Prize of the INVENTCOR 2025 International Exhibition, the Grand Prize of the INVENTICA 2025 International Exhibition, and the EUROINVENT 2025 Special Prize.
