Three Puhăceni brothers run a farm, saying, "It’s not always profitable, but we are at home"

On the banks of the Nistru, in the village of Puhăceni, Anenii Noi district, three brothers demonstrated that agriculture can become a successful business. It all started after the breakup of the collective farms, when their father, Eugeniu Petrov, invested in the first greenhouses, installed irrigation canals and decided to grow vegetables on a large scale, experimenting with various varieties.

In the Petrov family greenhouses, crop rotation is well planned: in the spring, early potatoes are planted, and in the summer - tomatoes, eggplants and cabbage. In this way, two crops are obtained on the same land, which reflects a model of agricultural efficiency.

“Slowly, for about ten years we have built these greenhouses of about three hectares. At the moment we own land on which we grow potatoes, we have four hectares of cabbage, in the greenhouses we grow more tomatoes, but for about five or six years we have been growing eggplants”, said vegetable grower Eugeniu Petrov.

Eugeniu Petrov’s children grew up actively involved in their father’s business. After studying in Romania, they returned home and brought their own vision of transforming agricultural activity.

“The most interesting thing in the agricultural field is the desire to do something qualitative, good and to get higher prices than others, like a lottery”, said farmer Sergiu Petrov.

"Profit when there is more, when there is less, but you are at home and it is nice to be with your family", said Eugeniu Petrov.

"It is a thing with many obstacles, with many gains", said Vasile Petrov, farmer.

The subsidies granted by the Intervention and Payments Agency for Agriculture and the European projects that the Petrov family implemented allowed them to purchase new equipment, install cold storage rooms and procure means of transport.

More about the Petrov family's business, as well as other success stories, can be found on the show "Land and People" on Moldova 1 TV, on Sunday, November 9, starting at 2:00 p.m.
