Leova incident: shootings were not targeted at candidate Bujorean, police

Last night, two gunshots were fired in the city of Leova. The General Inspectorate of Police (IGP) states that these incidents are not connected to the upcoming local elections scheduled for November 16, nor were they directed at Alexandru Bujorean, a mayoral candidate.
According to law enforcement, a young man allegedly took his father's gun without permission in order to demonstrate how it works to a friend. He claimed he had no intention of intimidating Alexandru Bujorean, as stated in a Facebook post.
"Preliminary information indicates that there is no connection between the shootings and the statements made by Alexandru Bujorean. Furthermore, he does not reside at the location where the shootings occurred. Initial investigations revealed that two gunshots were fired by a young man using his father's legally owned gun to show it to a friend. Today, a man appeared at the police headquarters and reported that his son had taken the gun from the family safe without permission," the IGP stated.
The gun, which was legally owned, has been taken for ballistics testing, along with the shell casings found at the scene.
The police have initiated a criminal case for hooliganism, which is punishable by a fine of 27,500 to 52,500 lei, unpaid community service of 180 to 240 hours, or imprisonment of up to 3 years.
11: 26 Shooting near Leova mayor’s home as he campaigns for re-election: police investigate
A shooting incident occurred in Leova on the night of November 8. Alexandru Bujorean, a mayoral candidate, claims he was shot twice by unidentified individuals in front of his home around 10:30 p.m.

In a Facebook post, Alexandru Bujorean reported that an unknown car had parked in front of his house and that two gunshots were fired in its direction.
"On the night of November 8, at around 10:30 p.m., an unknown car parked in front of my house, where I live with my wife and two children. I went out into the yard and heard some people talking. A few minutes later, a shot was fired, and after several attempts to reload the gun, a second shot followed. After that, the unknown car sped off in the southern direction, out of the city," Bujorean wrote.
He stated that “fortunately, neither I nor my family members were hurt.”
Bujorean has filed a complaint with the Leova Police Inspectorate, and “the casings of the two bullets were found at the scene.”
He suspects that the incident might be an attempt to intimidate him in the context of the upcoming elections. However, the authorities have not yet confirmed this theory.
"I qualify this case as an attempt to intimidate me as a candidate for the position of mayor of the city of Leova," he added, stating his willingness to cooperate with investigative bodies to identify those involved.
In another Facebook post, Bujorean shared two surveillance camera video clips showing the incident.
As of now, the police have not issued an official statement regarding the reported incident.
It's important to note that on November 16, residents of Leova and the neighboring villages of Sârma, Tochile-Răducani, and Sărata-Răzeși are scheduled to vote for a common mayor and local council. These four localities will form a single administrative unit as a result of voluntary amalgamation.
