National Youth Day: what drives young people in Moldova and what they expect from the authorities

I am the voice of a generation that dreams, fights, and perseveres. Every day, the young people of the Republic of Moldova demonstrate their ability to build a more modern country that is aligned with the European Union. On National Youth Day, the reporters from the public television station took to the streets to discover what motivates these young people, what concerns them, and what expectations they have of the authorities.

"There should be more emphasis on engaging young people in various activities. It would be beneficial to implement more centers and projects where young individuals can participate to foster their creativity".

"Opportunities are available for everyone. However, public transport could be improved by adding more routes, as it tends to be crowded and we sometimes arrive late for classes. Otherwise, things are going well".

"As a first-year university student, I see many opportunities and pathways for development. While there is already a good foundation, I believe there is room for even more initiatives. It would be great if more voices could be heard in this process, as improvements could enhance the overall experience".

" I believe education is good but has potential for further enhancement. There is always room for betterment across various aspects".

In a message shared online, Minister of Education Dan Perciun stated that young people are the driving force of change, instrumental in building a modern and united country. He emphasized that investments in education, volunteering, and innovation are vital for securing a prosperous European future.

"We are the generation that will lead the Republic of Moldova to the European Union. Congratulations on Youth Day! The country truly needs your enthusiasm, determination, and skills. By working together and supporting the development of the Republic of Moldova, we can expedite the process of European integration", said Perciun.

To support young people and strengthen infrastructure dedicated to them, the Ministry of Education and Research, along with the National Youth Agency, has recently launched three national programs: the "Youth Capital" initiative for 2026-2027, the Youth Centers Development Program 2030, and the Grants Program for Youth Organizations, which has an estimated budget of 20 million lei for 2026.

In the Republic of Moldova, individuals aged 15 to 34 make up 544,000 people, representing 22.8% of the total population.
