After Bucharest, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu heads to Brussels

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Munteanu, will travel to Brussels, the capital of Belgium, at the beginning of next week. He will participate in two significant European events focusing on the future of the European Union and strengthening the economic partnership across the continent. This visit will mark Alexandru Munteanu's first trip to Brussels since he was inaugurated as Prime Minister of Moldova.
The Prime Minister of Moldova will participate in the European Union Enlargement Forum, organized by the European Commission to foster dialogue on the EU's enlargement as a collective political, societal, and generational project.
The event, themed "Reuniting the Union, Securing Our Future," will gather European political leaders, civil society representatives, experts, and young individuals from both member states and candidate countries.
This Forum aims to reinvigorate the enlargement policy within the European Commission's strategic vision for the 2024-2029 period. It will commence with a video message from President Ursula von der Leyen, followed by a speech from Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos.
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu will participate in the first panel discussion titled “The Geopolitical Imperative of Enlargement,” alongside Kaja Kallas, the head of European diplomacy; Andrius Kubilius, the Commissioner for Defence; and Milojko Spajić, the Prime Minister of Montenegro.
The discussions will center on the role of enlargement in enhancing security, democracy, and prosperity across the continent, particularly in light of the geopolitical context shaped by Russia’s war against Ukraine and the rising strategic competition in the European neighborhood.
Following this, a series of panels will address citizens' perceptions in candidate countries, public attitudes in member states, and how the EU can strengthen its institutions in preparation for future enlargement. Among the speakers will be Edi Rama, the Prime Minister of Albania, and António Costa, President of the European Council, who will deliver the closing speech of the summit.
During his visit to Brussels, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu will also attend the European Business Summit 2025, scheduled for November 17-20. This summit is one of the most significant economic events in Europe, bringing together political leaders, business representatives, financial institutions, and international organizations to discuss the competitiveness of the European economy, digitalization, the green transition, and collaboration with partners in Eastern Europe.
Moldova's participation in these two major meetings reflects the country's commitment to deepening relations with the European Union and advancing its European integration. During this visit, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu is expected to hold several meetings with high-ranking European officials.
It is noteworthy that this upcoming trip to Brussels will be Prime Minister Munteanu's second foreign visit since the new Government was inaugurated on October 31. Munteanu's first visit will be to Bucharest on November 13.
