Moldova-Ukraine relations reach unprecedented level of trust

Moldova-Ukraine relations are deepening across key sectors—economic, energy, infrastructure, humanitarian, and educational—underpinned by mutual trust and common support for regional stability.
Kyiv highly appreciates the substantial assistance provided by Moldovan authorities to Ukrainian refugees who fled the war initiated by the Russian Federation, declared the Ambassador of Ukraine to Chișinău, Paun Rohovei, during the "La 360 de grade" program on Radio Moldova.
The diplomat underscored the solid bilateral cooperation between the governments in Chișinău and Kyiv in the economic and energy infrastructure fields.
"I discussed with the Prime Minister the prospect of relaunching the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Commercial Cooperation. We touched upon projects in the energy sector and infrastructure, such as the construction of bridges. We have favorable conditions, as both the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are already connected to the European energy system," the Ukrainian diplomat noted.
Referring to one of the most important joint initiatives, the Cosăuți-Iampil bridge, the ambassador explained its strategic value for both nations and the wider region.
"It is a strategic project of great importance for both states. Any infrastructure project drives development in related sectors—creating jobs, boosting trade, and enhancing transport links. This bridge will connect the center of Ukraine, through northern Moldova, directly to the EU borders," the ambassador detailed.
Rohovei confirmed that despite an interruption in initial financing, authorities are actively working to identify alternative funding sources.
"A pause in one funding channel does not signal a lack of alternatives. There are, in fact, several options. Colleagues from both governments are collaborating now to secure the most suitable financing for this vital project," the diplomat said.
The ambassador also addressed the humanitarian component of bilateral cooperation, recognizing the deep solidarity shown by Moldovan citizens towards the Ukrainian refugees.
"Ukraine is profoundly grateful to the Republic of Moldova—to both the authorities and civil society. People feel at home here. Those I speak to daily highly appreciate everything they are offered. Moldova's immense contribution to saving and assisting those forced to flee the horrors of the war will be written in history in golden letters," the Ambassador of Ukraine stated on the national radio.
The diplomat further confirmed an open and constructive dialogue between Chișinău and Kyiv in the field of education, specifically for the Ukrainian community in Moldova. "I have traveled throughout the Republic of Moldova, visiting localities with a majority Ukrainian population. They are extraordinary people, preserving their culture, spirit, and language. I have even met individuals who speak a cleaner Ukrainian than in some regions of eastern Ukraine."
Rohovei stressed that concrete steps are being taken to establish classes with Ukrainian-language instruction.
"There is a clear solution, backed by the total openness of the Moldovan authorities. These are concrete plans, and you will soon see tangible results. We are moving past discussions and taking action. We will see a school with Ukrainian instruction, and a school with instruction in Romanian plus Ukrainian," Paun Rohovei disclosed.
In conclusion, the Ambassador of Ukraine stressed that the bilateral relations between Chișinău and Kyiv have reached "an unprecedented level of mutual trust" and that "this positive and pragmatic dialogue serves the benefit of both peoples."
