Norway opens new embassy office in Chișinău

Norway has inaugurated an Embassy office in Chișinău, a significant move praised by authorities as one of major importance in developing Moldova-Norway relations.
At the launch event, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, speaking alongside Norwegian State Secretary Eivind Vad Petersson, stressed the strategic significance of this new diplomatic presence for deepening bilateral cooperation.
"Our partnership is a true testament to the excellent relations we share," declared the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister. "The support offered by the Norwegian people has proven extremely valuable during this time of great need, both for Ukraine and for the Republic of Moldova."
Popșoi noted that Moldova has demonstrated remarkable performance on its path toward European Union accession. He attributed this success to the resilience of the Moldovan people and the "generosity and incredible support from our friends and partners."
"We are grateful for this support and look forward to continuing to build on this great partnership now that a Norway Embassy Chișinău presence is established here," the head of Moldovan diplomacy stated.
The official also highlighted the critical importance of cooperation in strengthening resilience within the energy sector and economic development, along with fortifying civil society and democratic institutions.
The Norwegian diplomat, Eivind Vad Petersson, referred to the opening as "a first step towards an even more durable presence" of Norway in the Republic of Moldova.
"A stable and democratic Moldova is important for the whole of Europe," Petersson stated. "We will continue to support the country's resilience through the Nansen program, focusing on key areas such as energy, governance, education, and combating disinformation."
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of Norway were established on June 3, 1992. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that four bilateral treaties have been signed to date.
The Norwegian government has announced approximately 30 million euros in support for the Republic of Moldova for 2025. This funding will contribute to strengthening energy resilience, combating disinformation, promoting education, and supporting rule of law reforms.
