Writer Constantin Cheianu is resigning from his position as a deputy of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) due to health concerns. He stated that he became involved in the elections to prevent the Russian opposition from gaining power following the September 28 election. However, he found that the efforts he put into the electoral campaign and his work in Parliament had negatively impacted his health.

Constantin Cheianu shared in a Facebook post that he retired two years ago due to health issues. Doctors informed him that his future health would depend on “many pills, avoiding stress, limited physical effort, and a strict diet.”

Despite his desire for a quiet life, he felt compelled to engage in the upcoming elections on September 28. The prospect of the pro-Russian opposition gaining power alarmed him, as it did many reasonable people in the country. Cheianu decided to become involved, writing and participating in events to support the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) and prevent a disastrous outcome for everyone.

He admitted that he struggled through the long Parliament sessions, including the one in which the Munteanu Government was inaugurated, which lasted 10 hours.

“In my eagerness to do good, I overestimated my abilities and physical condition. I could have made another effort to continue, but I fear that would jeopardize both my responsibilities as a deputy and my health. Perhaps I should have withdrawn from the electoral list during the campaign when I first sensed my health decline. However, doing so then would likely have caused more harm than if I had simply chosen not to get involved from the beginning,” Cheianu explained.

He emphasized that President Maia Sandu was the one who nominated him to run on the PAS list, and she was also the first person he informed about his decision to resign from his position as deputy.

“Of course, the first person I spoke to about my resignation was President Maia Sandu. I also discussed it with President Igor Grosu. They both mentioned they would have tried to convince me to stay if it weren't for my health. I assured them, as I want to assure all my colleagues in PAS, that I will continue to be a supporter and a dedicated advocate for the government,” Constantin Cheianu pointed out.

At the time of the elections, the writer was 12th on the PAS electoral list.

We would like to remind you that five deputies from the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) have resigned from their parliamentary positions. These deputies are Constantin Cheianu, Maria Agbaș, Roman Cojuhari, Viorel Bostan, and Nicolae Drăgănel.

The next five candidates on the PAS electoral list to fill these vacancies are Ana Oglinda, Vladimir Rusu, Vasile Porțevschi, Oleg Canațui, and Efimia Bandalac. Four of these candidates previously held deputy mandates in the last Parliament, while Vladimir Rusu served as the head of the Balți Territorial Office of the State Chancellery.

Additionally, it is worth noting that eight other PAS deputies had resigned their mandates earlier. Some of them have been appointed to executive positions, while others have returned to their previous professional roles.

Meanwhile, two deputies from Our Party, Nina Cereteu and Stela Onuțu, have also resigned from their parliamentary mandates to continue serving as mayors in Drochia and Glodeni, respectively.
