Farmers who suffered losses due to spring frosts receive compensation from the state

Farmers who experienced losses from spring frosts and July storms receive compensation, according to the Agricultural Intervention and Payments Agency (AIPA).

Over the past two months, AIPA has received a total of 690 applications, with 91 already approved, amounting to 19 million lei in support.

This assistance is available to farmers who have cultivated sugar beet and to owners of cherry, apricot, plum, almond, peach, and apple orchards, as well as to vineyards affected by the severe storm in the Cahul district on July 21.

It is important to note that on September 10, the Commission for Emergencies approved the allocation of 100 million lei to compensate for the damages.

Earlier this year, in April, the Republic of Moldova experienced the most severe frosts in the last three decades, impacting half of the area planted with sugar beet, particularly in the districts of Dondușeni, Drochia, Râșcani, Fălești, Florești, and Ocnița, as well as many orchards. Additionally, the July storms destroyed approximately 30 hectares of vineyards in the village of Lebedenco, in the Cahul district.

How compensation is granted

For sugar beet producers, areas up to 500 hectares per applicant are eligible, regardless of the size of the affected land. The aid will fully cover the cost of seeds needed for reseeding, based on tax invoices.

For fruit growers, compensation varies depending on the type of orchard: 14,000 lei per hectare for cherries, 13,100 lei for apricots, 12,000 lei for plums, 10,000 lei for almonds and peaches, and 8,000 lei for apples.

Winegrowers in the Cahul district affected by the July storm will receive financial aid of 35,000 lei per hectare. For areas smaller than one hectare, compensation will be proportional to the extent of the damage.
