PCRM will not back the denunciation of the Cultural Agreement with Russia

The parliamentary faction of the Communist Party will not support denouncing the Cultural Agreement with the Russian Federation during the plenary session. This was stated by the party leader, Vladimir Voronin, in response to a question before the Thursday, November 13, session of Parliament.

“In no case,” Voronin stated.

Pointing out that “our relations with the Russians have historical roots,” the communist leader described the initiative to denounce the agreement as unjustified.

“This is our history. We cannot renounce our history. And this visa regime… What is the parliamentary majority thinking? This is what they were elected to do – to make foolish decisions every day?” the deputy said.

The cultural agreement with the Russian Federation is currently on the agenda of the Parliament session. On Wednesday, the Foreign Policy Committee supported the Ministry of Culture's report recommending its denunciation. This decision will lead to the cessation of activities of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Chisinau, which is recognized as a “propaganda tool of the Kremlin.”

The only vote against the denunciation was cast by socialist leader Igor Dodon. He declared that the PSRM faction would not vote in favor and rejected the authorities' accusations that activities under the guise of this center were aimed at undermining the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the Ministry of Culture's report, this center, known as "Russkii Dom," has not acted as an authentic cultural institution. The center is funded by the Russian agency Rossotrudnichestvo, which is under international sanctions and is considered the Kremlin's primary agency for promoting its influence and hybrid power.
