Deputies of Parliament invited to participate in the national afforestation campaign this fall

Members of Parliament are encouraged to take part in this autumn's afforestation campaign, which aims to plant over 33 million saplings. The campaign will run from November 15 to December 15 and plans to plant trees across 840 hectares within existing forest reserves, as well as create over 2,600 hectares of new forests on land managed by local public authorities.
The appeal was launched during a plenary session by former Environment Minister and current PAS deputy, Sergiu Lazarencu. He emphasized that elected representatives are expected to participate in planting saplings in the village of Alexeevca, Ungheni.
"I would like to invite everyone to support the afforestation program and join us this Saturday for the planting event. Over the past two years, this program has brought society together, and we have already planted 17,000 hectares. By the end of the year, the Government and Moldsilva aim to reach 20,000 hectares. Let us become the 'forest generation' and leave behind a greener, more forested country," urged Deputy Sergiu Lazarencu.
In response, opposition deputies accepted the invitation but suggested establishing clear planting guidelines to prevent saplings from dying.
"If we can decide to plant saplings that are at least one meter tall and amend the legislation accordingly, we should avoid using acorns or small saplings. We don't want the press to come back in 2-3 years and show that nothing has grown from what was previously planted. However, we are committed to planting trees, and those who understand afforestation will support it," stated Deputy Renato Usatîi, president of the "Our Party" faction.
"The topic of afforestation has been discussed extensively. We look forward to seeing you in Alexeevca or at any other location where the process is organized," said Igor Grosu, President of the Parliament.
"There is a draft Forest Code currently registered in Parliament, which will establish clear guidelines for this process. The Forest Code will mandate that the state pay foresters' salaries, invest in afforestation, and maintain order. At present, the state has relied too much on self-management, leaving foresters to organize their working conditions without sufficient support, and we cannot expect miracles under such circumstances. Therefore, the forestry sector needs to be clearly organized, and the involvement of the state is essential," declared Vlad Batrîncea, Vice President of Parliament.
The "Autumn 2025" afforestation campaign is part of the National Forest Expansion and Rehabilitation Program, "Forest Generation," initiated by President Maia Sandu. This program aims to plant and rehabilitate 145,000 hectares of forest by 2032. In the first two years since its launch, over 16,000 hectares have already been afforested.
