Maia Sandu before the Government and Parliament: "I request the set-up of the Anti-Corruption Court - a specialized court to investigate cases of major corruption"

No matter how complicated it will be, the authorities of the Republic of Moldova will complete the cleansing of the judiciary. "We all know that people demand justice, and justice is built through trust," said the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, in the plenary session of the Parliament. The Head of State asked the Government and the Parliament to create a court to investigate cases of high corruption, including in the justice system.

"I call on the Parliament and the Government to create the Anti-Corruption Court - a specialized court to investigate cases of grand corruption and corruption in the justice system. We don't have time to let the corrupt in the system indefinitely postpone their own cleaning", said Maia Sandu.

The changes that started in the judiciary are correct, Maia Sandu declares, and they will fulfill their goal of having an independent judiciary. The President mentions that the resistance in the system to this cleaning was to be expected.

"The corrupt, the ones with phone orders, the ones with bribes don't want to change their temper or even more so be punished for what they did, but that won't stop us. For Moldovans, justice is essential", said Maia Sandu.

The President gave assurances that despite the difficulties, the process of cleaning the judiciary will be completed.

"High-level corruption is the biggest danger to Moldova, we owe and are obliged to the citizens to punish the big corrupt and not allow them to control our country. In these two years, the judiciary had the independence to do justice to the people, but it did not. (…) Only when the law is respected, and everyone does their job, will we be able to correct the harm done to our country. This means EU, work for the country and let the country work for you. I want to ensure this stability in Moldova, peace, good salaries, jobs, quality of life", declared Maia Sandu.

We note that today, after a four-year break, the General Assembly of Judges convened. Two issues are included on the agenda: the approval of the draft Regulation regarding the operation of the General Assembly of Judges and the election of the members of the Superior Council of Magistracy. We remind you that five candidates for the position of member in the CSM passed the evaluation of the Pre-Vetting Commission. These four would have to be approved by the General Assembly of Judges.

The Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu mentioned today in the Parliament session that the General Assembly of Judges is "an event with increased attention". Also, the Parliament Speaker wants the magistrates to come up with brave decisions for the judicial system and for the citizens.
