New local elections in Moldova: Mayoral race attracts 12 candidates

On Sunday, November 16, eligible voters from six localities across the country have a pivotal opportunity to elect their mayors in the New Local Elections in Moldova.
In some areas, citizens will also vote for a new local council composition. A voter turnout of over 22,000 citizens is anticipated across the 21 polling stations.
These New Local Elections are taking place in Ustia village (Glodeni district), Natalievca commune (Fălești district), Cremenciug commune (Soroca district), Bașcalia village (Basarabeasca district), Călinești commune (Fălești district), and the town of Leova (Leova district).
The Moldova mayoral race involves 12 registered candidates: ten nominated by political parties and two running independently. The gender breakdown is three women and nine men.
For the local councilor positions, 78 candidates are registered (38 women and 40 men). Only two are running independently; the remaining 76 are affiliated with four distinct political groups.
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC), the primary electoral commission overseeing the process, has printed a total of 38,975 official ballots. Of these, 34,397 are in Romanian and 4,578 are in Russian.
The entire electoral process is monitored by 26 national observers accredited by the CEC.
All polling stations will remain open until 9:00 PM.
Voters unable to attend the polling station due to health or other valid reasons may request the use of a mobile ballot box. On election day, such requests must be submitted to the electoral bureau with a supporting medical certificate before 2:00 PM.
