Moldova gas tariff expected to drop after ANRE review, minister says

Moldova's Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu has announced an expected reduction in the natural gas tariff, stating that the regulatory body, ANRE, will soon review the price structure.
Mr. Junghietu confirmed that natural gas suppliers are scheduled to present their pricing calculations to the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) this December. This review aims to assess the accrued price deviations, which are legally required to be factored into the final consumer tariff.
The Minister explained the ongoing strategy, noting: "Prices remain subject to indexation. We have proactively adjusted our gas procurement strategy, shifting away from previous dependency on a single source. Energocom has diversified its supply purchases, which enhances our energy security. However, as payments are processed to our international suppliers, price deviations occur and must be re-evaluated."
He added that ANRE would carry out the necessary calculations once the figures are available, after which it would issue a final decision. "Based on the data available to the ministry, we anticipate a tariff readjustment, which is expected to result in lower gas tariffs for consumers," Junghietu stated during an appearance on Realitatea Moldova.
State-owned SA "Energocom" became the country's primary natural gas supplier in September, taking over the role previously held by Moldovagaz. Moldovagaz's licence was revoked due to its failure to comply with the mandated European requirements for the unbundling (separation of activities) of its operations.
The current natural gas tariff for consumers, effective since December 1, 2024, stands at 16.74 Moldovan lei per cubic metre, inclusive of VAT.
