Șor branch leader in Briceni faces up to seven years for spending 1.8 million lei for a criminal group

President of the Briceni territorial organization of the former "Sor" Political Party, which was declared unconstitutional in June 2023, is set to face legal proceedings for complicity in accepting illegal financing from an organized criminal group. He is accused of receiving 1.8 million lei from illicit sources and using these funds to support actions aimed at gaining power for the convicted Ilan Shor, who has fled to Moscow.
According to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, the accused allegedly coordinated, between July and October 2022, the activities of the Briceni territorial organization as the party's president while being aware that these activities were being financed illegally.
Prosecutors claim that, in collusion with the party's leadership, he contributed to the acceptance of illicit financing by providing guidance, information, and resources to support the party's activities. This included the transportation and compensation of participants in protests organized by the "Șor" Party.
The total amount of funds originating from illicit sources is reported to exceed 1.8 million lei, which would have been used for the party's political activities aimed at promoting its interests and gaining power in the state through unlawful means.
The defendant has not admitted to any wrongdoing. In 2024, the criminal case was separated from the main file initiated in 2022 and sent for examination to the Chisinau Court in Buiucani.
For the charges filed, the law stipulates a penalty ranging from a fine of 57,500 to 92,500 lei, or imprisonment for 2 to 7 years, in both cases accompanied by the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in specific activities for a period of 2 to 5 years.
Prosecutors have seized the defendant's assets, valued at approximately 162,000 lei.
