Environmental Inspectorate chief dismissed: Ministry calls for “new vision”

The Director of the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection, Ion Bulmaga, was dismissed from his position. The Minister of the Environment, Gheorghe Hajder, thanked him for his work but stated that "the institution needs a new vision".
Ion Bulmaga announced on Monday, November 17, through social media that Minister Gheorghe Hajder informed him that he would not be part of his team.
"Today, I was invited to the Government, and after discussions, I will be relieved of my position on November 26, 2025. When I was designated the winner of the competition for the position of head of the Environmental Protection Inspectorate (IPM), I made it clear from the beginning that my focus would be on three key areas: enforcing zero tolerance for corruption and protectionism, enhancing the image and trust of civil society in the institution, and equipping the agency to improve its operational efficiency. I believe we have successfully achieved these objectives, with the most important being earning the appreciation of the citizens," Bulmaga wrote on Facebook.
Shortly after, the minister clarified that Ion Bulmaga had a full four-year mandate at the head of the inspectorate.
According to the minister, environmental legislation requires much more rigorous control and monitoring.
"I appreciate the positive developments achieved during this period, but the institution needs a new vision and a faster pace to align with the context of European integration," the minister stated.
Ion Bulmaga was appointed head of the Environmental Protection Inspectorate on October 30, 2021.
