"Forest Generation": Volunteers plant over 1.2 million saplings last weekend

Over 8,300 volunteers from the Republic of Moldova planted 1.22 billion saplings on 286 hectares over the past weekend. The mobilization took place as part of the national afforestation campaign "Forest Generation."

According to the Ministry of Environment, planting activities have taken place at 130 locations throughout the Republic of Moldova, coordinated by approximately 2,000 foresters.
The afforestation campaign involved students, teachers, employees from public institutions, NGOs, business representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the Republic of Moldova.
“In addition to establishing new forested areas, we have also made additions to plantations from previous years where necessary. The work was conducted on lands made available by local governments as well as in the forest areas managed by the Moldsilva Agency,” the Ministry of Environment stated.
The afforestation campaign began on November 15 and will continue until December 15, 2025. The authorities aim to increase the Republic of Moldova's forested area by at least 3,500 hectares during this period.
We remind you that the National Afforestation Program "Forest Generation" was launched in 2023 at the initiative of President Maia Sandu. Its goal is to plant 145,000 hectares of forest by 2032.
In the first two years since the program's launch, over 16,000 hectares have been afforested, and by the end of this year, the total forested area could reach 20,000 hectares.
