Moldovan Prime Minister announces talks with Western partners on a plan of Transnistrian region reintegration

The Republic of Moldova is making significant progress toward opening the first chapter of negotiations for its accession to the European Union. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu shared this update at the first EU Enlargement Forum, organized by the European Commission in Brussels on November 18. This event signifies a heightened focus on discussions surrounding potential new members of the EU, including Moldova, which is currently undergoing reforms and legislative harmonization.
The Head of the Executive in Chisinau emphasized that the Moldovan authorities are working diligently to fulfill the technical requirements needed to initiate negotiations. He specifically highlighted the close collaboration with the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov.
“All the signals are very positive. I believe you have heard the commissioners' comments today. In the meantime, we are fulfilling our responsibilities and have already convened a meeting to continue the process of harmonizing legislation,” stated Alexandru Munteanu.

The Prime Minister stated that the Government is preparing "many missions and investments" to revive the economy, focusing on the effective use of the 1.9 billion euros recently secured from foreign partners, funds primarily intended for investment.
In his speech, Munteanu emphasized the vital role of independent press in the country's democratic journey: "In a totalitarian regime, the media disappears. We need independent media. This is what happened in Russia, and what is occurring now in Georgia. In the Republic of Moldova, we benefit from independent media."
Transnistrian region reintegration plan discussed with foreign partners
When asked about the potential withdrawal of Russian troops from the Transnistrian region, Prime Minister Munteanu confirmed that the authorities are collaborating with Western partners on a plan for the region's reintegration. "We are currently discussing a plan for the reintegration of the Transnistrian region with our European and American partners. For now, I cannot provide details, but such a plan is under discussion," said the head of the Chisinau Government.
A new beginning in Chisinau-Comrat relations
The Prime Minister also addressed the relationship between the central government and the Gagauz autonomy, noting the prevailing regional opposition to European integration. Prime Minister Munteanu expressed his belief that the Chisinau authorities are relying on dialogue to overcome the tensions generated by "hybrid attacks" and the influence of political groups linked to the former Shor party. "I believe that the inhabitants of Gagauzia are ready to turn this page and work with us to build a bright European future for Moldova," he remarked.
Alexandru Munteanu announced that one of his first visits will be to Gagauzia, where he promises to establish an open dialogue with local authorities.
We remind you that Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu's participation in the EU Enlargement Forum reinforces Chisinau's commitment to European integration. This occurs at a pivotal moment in the decision-making process at the European level, ahead of the December European Council, where the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine have a last opportunity this year to receive approval to open the first negotiation chapters.
