Cameras around former National Hotel will stream directly to Police

The former "National" hotel, a dilapidated building located in the center of Chisinau, will be monitored by video surveillance, with the footage being transmitted to the police. This decision was approved by the Commission for Emergencies of the Chisinau municipality on November 18. According to the municipality, this measure aims to enhance security in the area, which has seen several tragic incidents over the years.
Mayor Ion Ceban announced that necessary resources had been allocated to monitor the perimeter of the former "National" hotel and to identify other areas and buildings at increased risk.
"It was decided to allocate the necessary resources to secure the area around the former 'National' hotel by installing surveillance cameras to transmit images to the police and to identify other buildings and areas with increased risk," stated the mayor.
Additionally, municipal authorities held a joint meeting with police representatives to discuss strategies for combating the sale, distribution, and consumption of drugs in the capital, as well as immediate measures to secure the former "National" hotel.
Furthermore, the mayor ordered an update to the municipal intervention plan, focusing on areas such as health, prevention, information in educational institutions, and child protection.
We remind you that on November 17, Ion Ceban announced that Chisinau City Hall would place a fence around the former "National" hotel. This decision followed the tragic incident earlier in November when a minor was found lifeless on the premises of the abandoned building, which remains easily accessible to the public. Ceban’s announcement came three years after he had requested the removal of a previously installed fence at the police's urging.
The mayor explained that City Hall would install the fence, even though the building is not under the municipality's management, and that the costs would be assessed and forwarded to the building's owner.
On November 6, a 13-year-old teenager was discovered lifeless inside the former hotel, located on Stefan cel Mare Boulevard, after falling from a height.
This tragedy elicited strong reactions from the community, particularly because it was not the first such incident at the abandoned building.
