Albița ammunition truck case: Three detained, prosecutors seek 30-day arrest
Three individuals detained in Chisinau in connection with the ammunition truck found at the Albita customs were brought before a judge on Saturday. Prosecutors are seeking their arrest for 30 days. Of the three suspects, only the director of the transport company involved in the case spoke to the press while being escorted into the courtroom. He denied any involvement and insisted that he was unaware of the cargo.
" I bear no responsibility,” declared the head of the company transporting the goods implicated in this case, one of the three suspects.
“I didn't know. I'm just the company's director. I received a call from Ziarul de Gardă, and I learned about all this from them”, the man insisted, repeatedly stating that he was unaware of the cargo being transported.
“Wait a bit, and you’ll find out everything from the investigation,” the company director added, expressing his willingness to cooperate. When asked by journalists where the cargo was headed, he responded, “As far as I understand, it's going to Israel.”
When bombarded with questions from journalists, he also mentioned, “Just because my company is listed doesn’t mean anything. I didn’t clear anything at customs.”
The fourth individual targeted in this case is the driver of the truck detained at the Albita customs. He has been placed in preventive detention in Romania for 30 days. His lawyer, Alexandru Agavriloaiei, stated that the driver was unaware of what he was transporting. The defence attorney emphasised that he is merely an employee of a transport company and that the preventive detention order was issued to facilitate ongoing investigations.
It is important to note that this smuggling case is being investigated separately in Romania, where the driver, a 37-year-old Moldovan citizen, was detained, and in the Republic of Moldova, where three individuals have been arrested: the head of the company that ordered the transportation of the goods, the head of the transport company, and a broker.
Law enforcement officials have determined that the goods were loaded onto the truck in the municipality of Chisinau. The authorities in Chisinau do not rule out the possibility that this case could be linked to “attempts at post-electoral destabilization,” and law enforcement agencies continue their investigations.
