Moldova’s Parliament Speaker to address Crimea platform

Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu will deliver a speech at the fourth edition of the Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform, where he will address the consequences of the war in Ukraine, including its impact on the Republic of Moldova.

The event will take place on Monday, November 24, and will be hosted by the Swedish Riksdag.

The Summit will bring together speakers of national parliaments and inter-parliamentary organizations. The delegation from the Chisinau Legislature also includes Ana Calinici, Vice-Chairwoman of the European Integration Commission.

According to the Parliament, the event is organized to highlight the consequences of Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

Key topics to be discussed will include sanctions, human rights, security, as well as economic and environmental consequences.

Other speakers will include the Speaker of the Swedish Riksdag, Andreas Norlén, and the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk. The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, will deliver a video message.

Additionally, Speaker Grosu has scheduled meetings with his counterparts from Bulgaria, Croatia, and Lithuania while in Stockholm.

On Monday afternoon, the head of the Legislature will also meet with Moldovan citizens residing in the Kingdom of Sweden.

The Crimea Platform was launched at the governmental level in Kyiv in 2021, initiated by the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, and serves as an international consultation and coordination forum. The event takes place at various levels—among governments, foreign ministers, parliaments and inter-parliamentary assemblies, as well as civil society and expert communities. Its goal is the cessation of the occupation of Crimea and its peaceful return to Ukraine.
