Moldova-Latvia ties: EU support & business growth

Diplomatic and economic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Latvia are steadily strengthening.
In an interview for the "Dimensiunea Diplomatică" show on Moldova 1, Latvian Ambassador Edgars Bondars emphasized that Latvia is ready to offer its expertise to support Moldova's European journey. The official highlighted the importance of a tailored approach to bilateral cooperation—one that addresses Moldova's specific needs and opportunities.
"We, the Latvian side, can identify specific nuances where we can offer recommendations or determine the course of action for our diplomats working in numerous groups in Brussels and the European Union. The goal is to adopt an individualized approach regarding decisions concerning the Republic of Moldova," stated Edgars Bondars.
The diplomat also referenced the Intergovernmental Commission meeting held in Riga this January—a gathering that had not taken place for seven or eight years. This event provided a significant boost not only to cooperation between various ministries but also sent strong positive signals to the private sector.
"On behalf of the embassy, I can say that we have observed a significant increase in interest towards the Republic of Moldova from Latvian entrepreneurs. We have hosted several delegations, including business representatives. Key sectors include energy, agriculture, environmental protection, and, of course, digital technologies. While it is premature to discuss specific figures, results will become visible in a year or two, as we are talking not just about trade volume, but also about investments in the energy sector," the ambassador noted.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Latvia were established on September 1, 1992.
