The single allowance for the child's birth will increase next year. As a result, parents will receive 536 lei more than in 2025. Specifically, the allowance will rise from 21,350 lei to 21,886 lei.

A proposed decision aims to amend Annex No. 1 of the Regulation regarding the establishment and payment of allowances for families with children.

This draft is based on the law governing social benefits for children, which requires the government to set the allowance annually. The amount will equal the value of the minimum basket of goods required at the time of a child's birth, calculated using data from the previous year.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, which authored the draft, emphasizes in the Substantiation Note that, according to the Constitution, the state has an obligation to ensure that every person enjoys a decent standard of living that supports their health and well-being, along with that of their families. Additionally, the state is required to guarantee every child the right to a standard of living adequate for their development.

The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to "financially support families upon the birth of children, thus contributing to their well-being."

According to estimates from the National Social Insurance House (CNAS), approximately 36,439 children are expected to benefit from the single birth allowance in 2026. The total estimated costs for this program amount to about 802,448.5 thousand lei, which has been incorporated into the draft State Budget Law for 2026, as noted in the project's Substantiation Note.

We remind you that starting January 1, 2024, the single birth allowance will be automatically granted to the mother based on data from the State Population Register regarding the child's birth. The mother will not need to submit an application for this allowance. Payments will be made using the method selected by the beneficiary, which is accessible through the government's electronic payment service (MPay).
