Emilian Galaicu-Păun was honored at the French Embassy

Emilian Galaicu-Păun, a poet, essayist, novelist, and translator, serves as the editor-in-chief of Cartier Publishing House. He is the first citizen of the Republic of Moldova to receive the Order of Arts and Letters, awarded at the rank of Knight, the most prestigious cultural distinction awarded by France. This honor was presented to him at the residence of the French Embassy in Chisinau.

The ceremony took place on the evening of November 25.

“Emilian Galaicu-Păun's personality and work establish him as one of the significant voices in Romanian literature. He is both an author and a translator who has made many important works of French literature accessible to readers,” stated Cristian Jardan, the Minister of Culture.

The event was attended by Ambassador Dominique Vaag, Liliana Nicolaescu Onofrei, the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Culture and Mass Media, as well as colleagues and friends of Emilian Galaicu-Păun.

“We celebrated with gratitude the creators from the Republic of Moldova and their contributions to the European cultural family,” the minister added.

The Order of Arts and Letters, established in 1957 and administered by the Ministry of Culture in Paris, honors individuals who have distinguished themselves in artistic creation or through their contributions to the promotion of arts and letters in France and around the world.

Emilian Galaicu-Păun received this distinction through a decree from the French Prime Minister.

Gheorghe Erizanu, the founder and director of Cartier Publishing House, previously told Teleradio-Moldova that the significance of this title is "immense" for a writer.

Emilian Galaicu-Păun, born in 1964 in the Florești district, is a prominent poet, prose writer, essayist, translator, and literary critic. He graduated from the Faculty of Letters at Chișinău State University and earned a doctorate in philology from the "M. Gorky" Institute of Literature in Moscow.

Since 2000, he has served as the director of the Cartier Publishing House. Galaicu-Păun is the author of significant volumes of poetry and prose that have become landmarks of contemporary Bassarabian literature, including "Lumina proprie," "Abece-Dor," and "Gesturi."

He is also a member of both the Writers' Union of the Republic of Moldova and the Writers' Union of Romania.
