Lithuania’s ambassador says Moldova now has a historic chance to join the EU

The Republic of Moldova currently has a historic opportunity to become a member of the European Union (EU), according to Tadas Valionis, the Lithuanian Ambassador to Chisinau, in an interview with Radio Moldova. These remarks were made during the commemoration of the 12th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius, where the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union were initialed. The Ambassador highlighted that the results of the elections held on September 28 confirm the European path that our country has chosen to pursue.
The Lithuanian Ambassador to Chisinau, Tadas Valionis, stated, “You have a historic opportunity now. With a pro-European Parliament, Government, and President, the conditions are ripe for progress. Last year, a referendum on joining the European Union was held, which means that this Government can engage in negotiations, and the new Parliament can ratify them. You have all the necessary support, and there is a strong political will from the EU to make this happen.”
Valionis emphasized that Lithuania is committed to providing all the necessary assistance for Moldova to join the European family.
He described the relationship between Lithuania and Moldova as “very good, better than ever,” highlighting that Moldova is currently on a path toward EU membership. He mentioned, “This is a strategic interest for Lithuania, as we believe that the expansion and consolidation of the European Union will make us stronger, freer, and more prosperous.”
We remind you that on November 28, 2013, in Vilnius, Lithuania's capital, Moldova initialed the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union. These agreements paved the way for closer political and economic ties with the EU. As a result, Moldovan citizens can now travel to EU countries without needing a visa, provided they possess a biometric passport.
