In recent months, Poland has begun intensively building a barbed wire fence on its border with Russia, the Kaliningrad region. This action is intended to keep migrants at bay and give locals in the border region a sense of security.

"We must always be ready to protect not only the Republic of Poland, but also the territory of the entire European Union and European countries. Therefore, it is an additional element of protection of the external borders of the European Union.";

"The border is there. White pillars are installed. Now we, the Poles, the Polish soldiers have isolated themselves and everything is calm for now. There were no situations where anyone came here or there were any threats. There was nothing of the sort. For now, everything is calm.”

The exclave of Kaliningrad, where Russia has a significant military presence, lies on the Baltic coast between Poland and Lithuania and is separated from Belarus by a narrow border corridor.
