The Swede Armand Duplantis and the American Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone are the recipients of the prestigious Athlete of the Year 2025 awards.

World Athletics has named its laureates in various categories, recognizing the top performers in track and field.

Duplantis, the pole vault star, cemented his dominance in the discipline. He broke his own world record four times throughout the year.

His final record-breaking performance came in September at the World Championships in Tokyo, where the Swede cleared the bar set at an unprecedented 6.30m. Additionally, Duplantis secured the gold medal at the World Indoor Championships and won the coveted Diamond League trophy this year.

The honor of Female Athlete of the Year 2025 went to American sprinter Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. She claimed two gold medals at the World Championships in Tokyo: one in the 400-meter sprint and another as part of the 4x400-meter relay team.

World Athletics also rewarded other athletes for their outstanding results. The Male Track Athlete award went to Emmanuel Wanyonyi from Kenya, the 800-meter world champion. The Female Field Athlete award was secured by Australia's Nicola Olyslagers, who also took home a world championship title this year. Furthermore, the best young athletes, seen as rising stars in track and field, are hammer thrower Zhang Jiale from China and 3000-meter steeplechase runner, Edmund Serem from Kenya.
