Washington// Maia Sandu and Nancy Pelosi discussed regional security risks and the impact of the energy crisis on the Republic of Moldova
The challenges that the Republic of Moldova is going through following the war waged by the Russian Federation in Ukraine were discussed in Washington (USA) at the meeting of the head of state Maia Sandu with the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.
The two officials talked about the difficulties that the Republic of Moldova has because of the war, as well as the possible solutions to deal with the crises.
"I emphasised the importance of US support for strengthening democracy in our country and advancing reforms, especially after we became a candidate state for joining the European Union. We also talked about regional security risks and the impact of the energy crisis on our citizens and the country's economy, and we said that the American partnership is essential to deal with them," said President Maia Sandu, quoted in the press release of the presidential institution.
Maia Sandu conveyed to Nancy Pelosi her appreciation for her more than three decades of experience in American politics, which she dedicated to protecting and strengthening democracy in the world.
The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, is visiting Washington. The head of state will participate in the International Anti-Corruption Conference, within the Summit for Democracy. Also, Maia Sandu will have bilateral meetings and will meet with representatives of the Moldovan diaspora in the United States.
