Maia Sandu calls CSS meeting over hybrid threats to Moldova

The Supreme Security Council (CSS) will meet on Tuesday, December 2, convened by President Maia Sandu, to examine the increasing risks to the Republic of Moldova’s security.

According to the Presidency, the agenda will focus on evaluating cybersecurity risks and informational threats, the phenomenon of illicit financing, and necessary steps to bolster state resilience against hybrid threats, disinformation, and manipulation.

The head of state is scheduled to hold a press briefing after the meeting, beginning at 4:30 PM.

Authorities consistently warn that the Republic of Moldova is confronted with complex hybrid threats, primarily stemming from Russia. These threats combine cyber warfare, informational campaigns, and economic and military pressures. The risks are significantly amplified by the war in Ukraine and the persistent presence of Russian troops on the left bank of the Dniester.

In the recent period, the country's airspace has suffered multiple airspace violations by Russian drones targeting Ukraine. This has resulted in temporary airspace closures, flight diversions, and heightened security alerts. Authorities view these events as part of a wider pattern of destabilization efforts aimed at undermining the Republic of Moldova’s security.
