IGM suspends residence permit applications from December 2

The General Inspectorate for Migration (IGM) has suspended, effective December 2, the procedure that allowed foreign citizens to simultaneously submit files for their right of residence and the issuance of a residence permit.
This major procedural overhaul related to the issuance of identity documents for foreign citizens in the Republic of Moldova is due to the upcoming introduction of the new national ID model: the Residence Card. This new document, part of the national passport system, is scheduled to be put into circulation starting in 2026, marking a significant change in IGM procedures.
Specifically, the IGM's foreigners' documentation desks will halt the reception of all applications for residence permits for foreign citizens between December 29 and 31. This suspension also applies to applications for identity cards intended for stateless persons, refugees, and beneficiaries of humanitarian protection.
Furthermore, from January 1 to 15, the IGM will suspend the reception of applications for the Residence Card under restricted, fast-track terms ("On the day of application," "1 working day," "5 working days").
Concurrently, the standard issuance term for the Residence Card for foreign citizens seeking temporary residence for work purposes will be extended from the current standard to up to 14 calendar days.
