Another 133 mayoralties join the “Europe is Close” Program, totaling 1.6 billion lei in investments

A total of 133 localities included in the Single Project Document (DUP) will receive funding from the national budget for modernization projects as part of the third edition of the "Europe is Close" program. Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, presented the list during a press conference on Wednesday, December 3.

Next week, the 133 mayoralties will sign contracts and conduct procurement tenders by year-end, allowing construction work to begin in the spring of next year.

The state funding is designated for projects aimed at developing and modernizing road and local infrastructure, which, as the minister stated, will "improve living conditions in our localities in the Republic of Moldova."

So far, contracts have been signed for 220 previously announced projects. With the addition of the 133 new mayoralties, the total number of initiatives supported by the "Europe is Close" Program has reached 353.

These projects will include the construction of 41 kilometers of local roads of regional and municipal importance, 294 kilometers of communal roads and streets within localities, as well as 120 kilometers of pedestrian paths and access platforms to public institutions.

The total cost of implementing all 353 projects is estimated to be 1.6 billion lei. Out of this amount, 1.5 billion lei will come from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, while the city halls will contribute 190 million lei.

"The Government of the Republic of Moldova is fulfilling its commitments to the mayors and, particularly, to the residents of villages and towns throughout the Republic of Moldova. We are building these roads together with the mayors for the benefit of the citizens, because their well-being means access to normal living conditions, safety, and dignity," said Vladimir Bolea.

According to the official, every project carried out by the Ministry of Infrastructure in collaboration with local authorities aims to transform cities and villages in the Republic of Moldova into places where people want to build their future.

"The atmosphere in our villages changes significantly after a new road is constructed. We are not discussing a few hundred meters; rather, we are talking about roads that are fully asphalted from one end to the other. The quality of the asphalt is very high, and new curbs and road markings are applied," the minister emphasized.

These investments signal a clear message that regional development is a priority and that the opportunities offered by the country's partners are being translated into tangible benefits for every citizen.
