Moldova initiates talks with Romania to establish coordinated control at the Lipcani–Rădăuți Prut crossing point

Another border crossing point with Romania will be upgraded to coordinated control. On Wednesday, December 3, the executive approved initiating negotiations with the Romanian authorities to implement this system at the Lipcani-Rădăuți Prut road crossing. This measure aims to reduce waiting times for travellers and carriers, as well as to streamline the operations of border authorities.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, explained that the project aims to streamline traffic and modernize bilateral cooperation at the border.
“The implementation of this type of control reduces waiting times for citizens and carriers, optimizes the work of the authorities by eliminating redundant inspections, and improves information exchange between the institutions of both states,” the Minister stated.
She noted that the new agreement is "an important instrument for collaboration between the Republic of Moldova and Romania in developing a coordinated border control system."
According to the approved project, the Government will initiate negotiations on the Agreement for coordinated control at the Lipcani–Rădăuți Prut border point. The Secretary of State in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Diana Salcuțan, will lead the official delegation to participate in technical discussions and initial the agreement's text.
The document stipulates that control will be conducted on the territory of the Republic of Moldova in both directions of travel.
The Lipcani–Rădăuți Prut point has been added to the map of joint control points.
The Republic of Moldova and Romania already employ coordinated control at two border points: Leușeni-Albita and Giurgiulești–Galați. Additionally, negotiations are in progress for the Sculeni and Fălciu–Cantemir (rail) points.
