Winter Olympics medal production is underway

As athletes, coaches, fans, and microbiologists prepare for the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, medal production is in full swing. Machines at the Italian state mint run non-stop from morning to night. A total of 1,146 medals will be produced: 735 for the Olympic Games and 411 for the Paralympic Games.
"We are collaborating with the International Olympic Committee to merge our traditions with the creativity of our artists, technological innovations, and the craftsmanship of our skilled artisans," says Michele Sciscioli, head of the Italian state mint.
Each medal will feature an engraving representing the corresponding sporting event.
"These medals have unique features. For instance, you can see an opening where the ribbon will be attached," explains Matteo Taglienti, the medal production manager.
The Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo are scheduled to take place from February 6 to 22 and will be broadcast live and exclusively on Moldova 1 TV.
