Cristian-Leon Țurcanu: “After Ukraine, Moldova is the country most affected by Moscow’s aggression”

The Republic of Moldova has faced severe attacks from the Russian Federation for many years, stated Cristian-Leon Țurcanu, the Romanian ambassador to Chisinau, in an interview with Moldova Zoom. The ambassador noted that Moscow has been waging a hybrid war against our country for an extended period.

Moldova has been the target of propaganda not only from the Russian Federation but also from Soviet-era influences that have persisted for decades. The situation has worsened since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, leading to an increase in hybrid attacks on the Republic of Moldova. After Ukraine, Moldova is the state most affected by Moscow's aggressive actions, as noted by Cristian-Leon Țurcanu.

Despite these ongoing attacks and interference from the Russian Federation, the Republic of Moldova is proving to be a resilient state. Authorities in Bucharest and Chișinău are actively collaborating in key areas to enhance their resilience, according to the Romanian ambassador to Chișinău.

In the last two years, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova have clearly expressed their desire to be part of Europe and the European family. This commitment to defending their democracy and the courage to articulate their aspirations for the future signify a high level of resilience. Relevant institutions in both Romania and the Republic of Moldova are working together, learning from each other, and preparing to respond effectively to these challenges.

During the second edition of the Moldova Security Forum, President Maia Sandu announced that the Republic of Moldova would develop a National Resilience Plan. This plan aims to strengthen state institutions' capacities in combating hybrid attacks.
