Washington//Maia Sandu, meeting at USAID: American partners support us in our commitment to get rid of corruption and reform justice

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, had a meeting in Washington with Samantha Power, Administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

The head of state thanked the American partners for supporting efforts to increase the quality of life in the Republic of Moldova, including through USAID programs.

"Since 1992, thanks to over $1.7 billion in funds provided to our country, the United States has been helping the Republic of Moldova to modernise its economy, creating small and medium enterprises; agriculture - in particular, the wine sector; to develop tourism, light and creative industry", said President Maia Sandu, reads a press release from the presidential institution.

The head of state also mentioned that the American partners support us in our commitment to get rid of corruption and reform justice, in strengthening civil society and independent media.

"We also thanked for the committed aid of $75 million in humanitarian assistance and almost $124 million in economic and security assistance to manage the aftermath of the war in the neighborhood and to deal with the worst energy crisis to date," stressed President Maia Sandu during the meeting with Samantha Power, USAID Administrator.

Most of the US programs implemented in the Republic of Moldova are granted through the Agency for International Development (USAID).

In supporting reforms in the field of democracy and the free market in the Republic of Moldova, USAID operates especially in the areas of economic growth, fair and democratic governance, agriculture, child protection.
