CFM launches tender for Cahul–Giurgiulești line stabilization design

Moldova’s national railway operator, Calea Ferată din Moldova (CFM), has launched a critical public procurement process to secure design services for a major infrastructure stabilization project in the country’s south.

The initiative targets the Colibaș–Giurgiulești segment of the strategic Cahul–Giurgiulești Railway line. This line is crucial as it links the network directly to Giurgiulești, Moldova's only port on the Danube River. The works are specifically aimed at securing the integrity of the railway line embankment.

CFM specifies that structural interventions are necessary at several critical points, listed as kilometer positions 88+700, 88+800, 88+900, 89+200, 89+900, 92+150, and 92+350. These segments require immediate reinforcement to prevent potential structural failures and ensure continuous rail traffic.

The estimated budget for the design acquisition is approximately 5 million Moldovan Lei (MDL) — equivalent to about $275,000 USD, including VAT. The contract will be awarded through an open tender process, in line with national public procurement standards.

The scope of services includes comprehensive technical documentation, mandatory on-site technical investigations, and the detailed engineering definition of the repair and construction works required for the embankment stabilization.

Interested bidders can find detailed information regarding the procedure and participation requirements on the official CFM website. The tenders will be hosted at the company’s headquarters in Chișinău.
